If you knew Mary...

Well, I only had a single guest weekend at the Maryland RenFest in '99, but it was a fine way to end off my '99 run. Maryland is one of the old soldiers of the renfaire circuit; 1999 was their 23rd season of operation.

	Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...sunshine!

My only concern with performing at MRF was that they're a little heavy on magic - Mike Rose, Tom Crowl and the Wench and LargerDemain all perform there. No problem, I thought - I'll just do more fire-eating stuff. Except that MRF also has The Daring Devilinis, Whipflash, and Mimi the Mime, all of whom do fire-eating. Aha, I thought, I'll just rely more heavily on the rats. Except that Maryland is far enough away from Toronto that I figured I would fly rather than drive, and taking two rats 'round trip on an airplane costs more than my ticket. In flash of brilliance, I came up with a fantastic and creative act. That flash was two years ago, when I designed the basic Zoltan act. So I just did the basic Zoltan act.

But as you Adequate fans know, Zoltan is more than just a magic show - it's a magic show with blood. And from the reaction I got, that's apparently enough for the discriminating MRF crowds. The Market Stage at the Maryland faire is a great location and fun was had by all. I got to hang out with Hilby (the Skinny German Juggle Boy), Jim and Lauren from Whipflash, and all my other friends in MD.

Someone sent me roses, I got to flirt with one of the leather-selling chicks...I think I can happily say that it was a successful weekend. So write the MD folks and tell them you want Zoltan back in '00. If I'm there for a couple of weekends in a row, I promise to bring the rats...
